July 3, 2013“The Elephant In The Room” (Anaphora)
June 27, 2013The Elephant in the Room
There’s an elephant fills a lot of rooms–
(‘cause even when elephant hides, he looms–)
This elephant’s as elephant as elephants can be
(no shrimpy shrunken trunk has he).
Fellow roomers ape that they don’t see
the elephant squashing their settee,
the elephant slurping afternoon tea–
(by the bye, Earl Grey’s his favorite brew–
though bancha slips down smoothly too),
but see they do, though throats go dry
whene’er that pachyderm’s derm is nigh.
All wings fold flat, all steps mince small
“cause elephant don’t leave room at all
for swaying sleeves or dancing pants–
no, all free space is the elephant’s.
But sometimes roomers got to breathe.
Though O2 won’t make elephant leave,
they find when they straight-elephant talk,
that elephant beat retreat to sulk–
Down in a corner, down in a crack-
and folks can take their parlor back.
Soon, tail’s a tassle, hump’s a knob,
elephant tea’s left on the hob–
Sure, traces linger of elephant smell
but if folks try to cover it too damn well,
sharpen it will to a great big whiff
that signifies a new trunk’s sniff–
the trunk of an elephant come to stay
in its elephant elephant elephant way.

I’m calling it a draft poem because it’s new and I’m a bit too tired to truly analyze rhyme and meter, so here’s a draft for dVerse Poets Pub’s Meeting the Bar prompt by the wonderful Victoria Slotto on Anaphora, which means the use of a repeated word. Followers know I have a thing about elephants – though I’m not sure they belong in rooms–
Long Day
June 18, 2013I appreciate that these do not look like the same elephant – not even early in the day and late in the day – but I can assure you that they are the same dog!
P.S. Uploading from a mobile device so difficult for me to tell how big anything is. If the pictures don’t show BOTH elephant and dog, click on them, and they will appear in full. (I hope.)
The Masseuse Is Worried
June 4, 2013Branching Out?
June 3, 2013I have been trying of late to branch out to different animals.
I mean, in my drawings, and I mean, other than elephants.
The first above was a European Bison. (Sort of.) The hump on his back looks suspicious.
Then I moved on to ducks. (Sort of.)
And a horse. (Ha.)
Hope your weekend was good.
P.S. – I’m not sure that drawings uploaded from an iPhone in their original (large) sizes show up on older browsers, so please click on image to see full version. Thanks! (If they are not loading in full, please let me know. I could use smaller versions also.)
Hot Day–Imagined Beach (with you know what.)
June 2, 2013Hot here. I fear some browsers don’t show a whole picture uploaded from iPhone app (which is what I use) so posting smaller file black and white version below. (Sorry for repetition–I get nasty surprises sometimes when I check a post on a regular computer after posting on a mobile device and find that only half the pic is there! The lady elephant in corner would not like to be cut out! Usually if you click on photo or drawing, whole will show.)
Stay cool!
Favorite Book (Poem) (With Elephants)
May 30, 2013Favorite Book
The page was a palm
on heart’s forehead, a familiar bed,
sheet rumpled to my shape, spine
drawing a line
against the banged slam
of demand, flared inhalation
of expectation, the vacuum cleaner
that sucked up every crumb. The words,
like an animal that mothers the misplaced young,
kept me as their own.

Here’s a short poem written for a With Real Toads prompt by the stiletto-sharp Mama Zen about a safe place. The challenge required a poem, I think, of 53 words or less. (This qualifies without the title.) And guess what–with the title, it’s 55 – so I’d ask you to also tell the G-Man.
(I’m not sure that the pic really goes with the poem, but I like the pic. Here’s another one – also not quite right for the poem but also one I kind of like. As always, all rights reserved.)
Murder mysteries?
May 28, 2013Strange, But Impressive, Sights Seen From Plane Window
May 27, 2013Here’s a strange sight I drew when looking out a plane window yesterday evening. Couldn’t quite catch it with my phone camera.
For those interested, the original drawing, scanned, is below. (I sometimes am not sure whether I improve these things with the photo app enhancements.) Feedback appreciated.
PS – I have had to post from mobile devices these days (when posting). I find that pictures do not always load properly, but if you click on the picture, you should be able to see it, if interested. Thanks!
