New Tech Not Like Old Love

My love is not an iPhone,
he doesn’t wake me with tinkling bells,
nor list, with distance, shops near home
and what they each might sell.

For love’s a different calling,
my calling’s to be his own–
No new tech’s so enthralling
as a love that lasts lifelong.

My love’s not like an iWatch,
not even an old-time Swatch;
my skin the touchscreen for his touch–
he makes it bing and such–

still, love’s a different calling–
(his calling’s to be my own),
and the love in which we’re falling
we’ll fall into our whole life long.

Oh my love, he is an i-Him
who helps me to be i-Me,
in ways before our union
we never quite could be–

For love’s a different calling,
a call to be each our own–
this love in which we’re falling
together our whole life long.

Here’s a drafty sort of love poem/love song for Kenia’s prompt on Real Toads to write the “perfect love poem.”  (I’ve been singing it to myself, but not in a position to come up with recording.)  This is certainly not the “perfect love poem” but I tried to use some of the elements Kenia mentioned as being common to love poems–comparison, obstacles–as well as relatively modern lingo.

This is some number of poem for April, 2015, National Poetry Month–
