Thistle for Two (um…Three)

I thought there were only two on this thistle until Barbara Y pointed out the little stink bug, milkweed bug, at top corner. Thanks so much, Barbara. K.

Three, actually. There’s a milkweed bug or stinkbug upper left. Love the way this shows the two planes of the wings with such different light.

Thanks, Barbara. Will check that out. I liked light on wings too. I had several shots that were more straightforward– always hard to choose as anything with a butterfly so lovely. K.

Beautiful. Had to blow it up to seethe third! It’s there – host to several – a very appealing thistle.

  3. Loved this! I just cut down the last bit of purple thistle in our yard the other day

Beautiful shot, k–and that bug is almost invisible–got new glasses today but didn’t think I’d need them–so wrong. ;_) The butterflies seem to be out in full force here, too–in the last few days have seen Black Swallowtails, a Monarch and lots of the big clear yellow ones–Sulphur Butterflies of some sort, I think. Colors are great in this.

  6. Yep, it’s triplets.

    Ace photo.

Wow, quite the gathering. Was this really taken with an iPhone? Any special app that you used? It is stunning.

Thanks. I use CP Pro, which is a camera app that has two “modes” I like a lot. One is “anti-shake” which sort of waits till the camera is still. It can be annoying but if you are not a good photographer it is helpful. The other is the “burst” mode – which takes five pictures in succession. That one is cool because you can get a shot that you might have missed if you were doing it all manually. The iPhone is a great camera I think, in part because the best camera is the one you have in your hand! Mine is a very old iPhone though so I am somewhat salivating to get a new one as I think they are even better. Thanks again for your kind words. k.
