Parsing Translucence
Parsing Translucence
She takes care to walk around
The webs that veil
The field, spiders
Posing as the ghosts
Of stone, path
For the unwary.

This is a sort of imagist poem posted for Kerry O’Connor’s prompt in honor of William Carlos Williams on With Real Toads. I found this one super difficult – this is actually my very first version. I did a zillion others, but my husband told me this was the best, so back to it. (I’ve used a title that was a line in one of the other versions, and which he does not think fits. Too bad!)
The pictures were all taken the other morning by me on my iPhone. Quite amazing. (All rights reserved.)

Great imagery of webs as ghosts, evocative. The title does fit! Oh well, husbands aren’t always right 🙂

I love how those webs capture the morning light. You described it so well as the ‘ghosts of stone’, an ephemeral pathway.
I do hope that some of the other poems you wrote for this challenge can be developed further. I believe that no writing should go to waste.

Well, I have a bunch of old manuscripts sitting around that drive me a bit crazy for just that reason.
But in this case may post another version. They are quite different. Maybe try for your oln. Thanks, Kerry. k.

I loved walking the picture stepping stones into your poem. Translucence defined in the morning dew … I’ve walked the same lawn it seems. Love this imagistic poem with it’s romantic ghosts.

Across the street from us are some low-lying junipers that are full of webs like this and dew drops. They enchant me and I’ve also photographed them. The stuff of which poems are made.

I may post one of the other poems as they were more ambitious but I was trying – not very successfully–to be Williams-like! k.

Eeriness whispers and indeed, William Carlos Williams is never skeleton but fleshy in his writing ~ like you !

Thanks! I think I was a bit bare bones here and may post one of the other poems. But thanks so much, Deb, you are very kind.
