Red All Over

Red All Over

Why is it we don’t sing
the reds of spring?
The coral carmine nipples
that lip each/every twig,
the rust pink kisses puckering
grey limbs, the mountainside’s tipped
blush?
April in the Catskills–
(Who knew?)

Here’s a kind of silly poem for I don’t know whom– it is gloriously red up here in upstate New York – every deciduous tree you can see (practically) tipped with a deep pinkish red.  Hard to photograph but pretty cool, pretty pretty.

Such an unexpected color in Spring–a forerunner of summer where we expect it, but much more eye-catching and even a bit astonishing to see it now. Here a lot of broadleaf evergreen shrubs make those new bursts of red leaves, japanese maples in burgundy, and barberry deep maroon…your poem is like coming around the corner to an unexpected vista where you thought there would be a wall.

hey i will sing of nipples on trees….smiles…the first budding of spring…reds are def a bit bold usually for spring, of pastels and greens….

Really love the opening two lines. So often is all about the blushes, the pastels. 😀

That’s interesting. You are right we are so glad to see the greens of spring that we are entirely colour blind about the reds!

can’t help but think of all the/our hidden passions when the reds and pinks fling about like this. I love the soft, sudden sensuality of this.
