I Heart Beat
I Heart Beat
I heart you sky
I heart you blue
I heart you cloud
I heart you true.
I heart you here,
there too and fro’–
I heart you now
and then and mo’.
I heart you even
when eve do fall–
(and adam too)
I heart you all.
So, lord, don’t hurt me–
jes’ hold me tight,
so’s I can ear
your heart all night.

Here’s a sort of ditty for With Real Toads, Kerry O’Connor, and a prompt focusing on beautiful images made by Kim Nelson. Don’t know about the last two stanzas! Had something lighter –but you know me – if I can add some gloom, I will! Oh well!
I am also posting for dVerse Poets Pub Open Link Night.

Ha! The adding of gloom is a true gift. This is fun, k, still, and not too searingly lowdown. I think the way the words fall in that little descending singsong helps keep the mood up, and what could be more hopeful than that third stanza? Enjoyed it much.

Thanks. It started out so simple but too long, then I cut but also complexified. I am no longer so sure I improve things when I mess with them, but still mess with them.

How lovely! I love the rhythm of this piece, a little gospel, an e the rhyming adds to my whole impression that this should be sung.

I thoroughly enjoyed this … I can hear the heart beat!!

Clever. I never would have thought that it would work, but it does. It works just fine – and it’s great fun into the bargain!

Karin, this is beautiful. In fact, I think this is my favorite poem of yours ever. Makes me want to say “Awwwww” at the end. Seems so ‘simple’ in form, but really is constructed so well and has such a deep meaning. Love, love, love it!

Hey, Mary. Thanks so much. I haven’t written anything new for OLN so maybe will use! Thanks. k.

January 15, 2013 at 3:12 pm
Oh dear! You can’t think like that. I mean, I’m sure I would have. But that’s what being human is! k.
January 15, 2013 at 3:09 pm
I heart this, and I heart life and my kids still heart your art 😛
January 15, 2013 at 3:13 pm
Well, thanks – this one isn’t mine, but I really love doing the art. If you look on categories for elephants, there are tons of them! k.

January 15, 2013 at 3:37 pm
aw… a sweetness in your words… amazing what a hug will do
January 15, 2013 at 3:42 pm
I have to confess that the phrase “I heart you” meaning “I love you” has always bugged me, but somehow it works here. I’ll never hear that phrase in quite the same way ever again. Peace, Linda
January 15, 2013 at 3:49 pm
Ha! Thanks, Linda. I will readily confess that it is not a phrase I have ever actually used (or I think would use normally) in that way! It just seemed to go with the image. k.

Karin, this is lovely!
January 15, 2013 at 5:03 pm
This has a catchy, heartbeat-like rhythm. I enjoyed it.
January 15, 2013 at 5:12 pm
I like the gloom! it twists it just right. Makes it more complex.
K….you have developed your poetry in the last year to such levels.
Brava.
Lady Nyo…and Claudia is going to love it, too.

January 15, 2013 at 8:06 pm
Oh, how I love this! The cadence is ideal and the dialect, so obvious in the final stanza, is endearing and grounding in locale.
January 15, 2013 at 8:09 pm
Thanks so much, Kim. A lovely image. I really like them all, but I love the color especially here. k.

I enjoyed this lighthearted take…thanks for the grin 🙂
January 16, 2013 at 1:15 am
nice. Really like the repetition and the almost childlike love in here. The adam line was nice, and the Jes’ I liked a lot, as it can be Jesus or diction for just. Really enjoyed and great painting by Kim, great choice to accompany your piece.
January 16, 2013 at 4:09 am
…ah, and i heart your poem Karin… an reminder to love and just simply love everything around… beautiful… and the artwork, it speaks to me so deeply…kudos to Kim… smiles…
January 16, 2013 at 8:13 am
Here’s to the gloom…The last stanza adds such a great resolution, brings all the hearts together. Very nice job on this.
January 16, 2013 at 11:19 am
lots of fun with your words
January 16, 2013 at 11:24 am
This was fun to read. I don’t think the end was gloomy. Really like this. It’s so original.
January 16, 2013 at 11:30 am
I like it! The rep makes it quite musical and Kim’s pic is v pretty
