I Heart Beat

I heart you sky
I heart you blue
I heart you cloud
I heart you true.

I heart you here,
there too and fro’–
I heart you now
and then and mo’.

I heart you even
when eve do fall–
(and adam too)
I heart you all.

So, lord, don’t hurt me–
jes’ hold me tight,
so’s I can ear
your heart all night.

Here’s a sort of ditty for With Real Toads, Kerry O’Connor, and a prompt focusing on beautiful images made by Kim Nelson. Don’t know about the last two stanzas!  Had something lighter –but you know me – if I can add some gloom, I will!  Oh well!

I am also posting for dVerse Poets Pub Open Link Night.

  1. Ha! The adding of gloom is a true gift. This is fun, k, still, and not too searingly lowdown. I think the way the words fall in that little descending singsong helps keep the mood up, and what could be more hopeful than that third stanza? Enjoyed it much.

Thanks. It started out so simple but too long, then I cut but also complexified. I am no longer so sure I improve things when I mess with them, but still mess with them.

Karin, this is beautiful. In fact, I think this is my favorite poem of yours ever. Makes me want to say “Awwwww” at the end. Seems so ‘simple’ in form, but really is constructed so well and has such a deep meaning. Love, love, love it!

  13. I have to confess that the phrase “I heart you” meaning “I love you” has always bugged me, but somehow it works here. I’ll never hear that phrase in quite the same way ever again. Peace, Linda

    • ManicDdaily's avatar ManicDdaily Says:

Ha! Thanks, Linda. I will readily confess that it is not a phrase I have ever actually used (or I think would use normally) in that way! It just seemed to go with the image. k.
