Seventh Day of National Poetry Month – New Computer Poem

New Computer And Eye Issue

I’m afraid to say this seventh draft poem of National Poetry Month does not bode well.

New Computer

My new computer really hurts my eye.
It swirls, it’s quick, it does
a zillion tricks–sit up, play dead,
if I say “speak”, it speaks;
say “seek”, it finds;  still it puts
me in a very pricey bind–
this new computer really hurts my eye.

But when I try to write things out by hand,
my fingers won’t quite prise
the pen, at least won’t prise
it well; even signing my own name
takes clumsy thought–
which is why I really need this new laptop.

Besides, it beams, how it beams–
which seems to be the problem–all those beams–
like staring at the sun, Louis Quatorze
Medusa, Yoda’s cave that held the Force.
All that glisters is not gold,
but this bright screen has now been sold
to me, oh my, right retina, goodbye,
this lovely new computer hurts my eye.

Taking you at face value…I’ll bet you can adjust the intensity. Of the brightness of the screen, of course.

    MAC or PC…

I’m sure it will get better. My eye issues may also relate to other things; i.e. umbilical bberry.

    This might help…

    or this

(Shades is a freeware program – so they’re not just suggesting computing with sunglasses.)

Caveat user – I don’t have a MAC so I haven’t tried these recommendations myself.

Dear David, I tried one of your tips, and it’s very helpful. I had adjusted the brightness, but there was a setting that automatically adjusted for ambient light, so it kept changing my adjustments. Aha! I hope turning that off will help; also there’s something to adjust color that I’m going to try, but may wait till I’m at apple store. At any rate, thanks so much.

Actually, nothing is working yet. My eye (right one) a complete mess. Terrible. I am going to apple store. It’s not an apple problem really, it’s an eye problem, but maybe they can help.

      David,

I’ve been in ongoing agony eye-wise, but called apple which led me through the downloading of shades software suggested by you. That’s only a few minutes, and, of course, my eyes are still messed up but I think this is going to really really help. (I’m also computing in beige and brown at the moment, no other colors, so maybe that will help too.)

      Thanks again.

      k.
