Parting (Fall)
Parting (Fall)
I catch the parting of clouds
on the mountain rather than sky,
the baring of bared maples’ inner birch, silver linings bright
as any limb warmed,
light moving
as the crow flies.
So, we sometimes find
those lost, not
by looking up, but across,
right into the shine
of the valley of death;
so, we are sometimes wreathed
with a kindness that knows our shape, our face,
though it lies well beyond
our tracery.

Here’s a drafty sort of poem about the way light seems to move in November. I will link to Real Toads Open Forum. Pics are mine.

Nice, Karin. Comforting to remember that we are sometimes wreathed in kindness.

“light moving
as the crow flies..” such a perfect visual. Stunning photos, k–and a gentle, insightful poem full of the mysterious light and changing hues of autumn. The word ‘mercy’ seems to hang in the air over it. Just excellent.

Mercy! Perfect word that was beyond my reach– ha. Thanks. K.

Exquisite photographs. And a beautiful verse to go along with them.
“..find/those lost, not/by looking up, but across..”: Perfect.

There is something so spectacular in the mere weakness of the light at this time of year, like a shallow breath…

I especially love the second verse, finding those lost by looking across, not up, “right into the shine”. Beautiful. And your photos are wonderful!

I love these lines: “so, we are sometimes wreathed
with a kindness that knows our shape, our face,
though it lies well beyond
our tracery.”
Gorgeous!

Stunning photos, and also a very tidy pastoral piece to accompany them. I do love the lines you’ve etched out here!

I’ll be watching those fall lights better, k. Thank you. We won’t have many red or yellowing leaves until the end of the month or in December. I have noticed that the fall colors are brighter and prettier looking when I’m wearing sun glasses.
