“Citzens-U Ditty” – Oligarchy/Dollargarchy/Mon(ey)archy Moe – Flash 55

Election Coverage Watcher In Some Dismay

Citizens-U Ditty

Don’t-see PACS
collect big dough.

Huge donations
don’t come free.

Amateur Cameras
drop the jaw.

When will Congress
finally do!?

Moating voting?
Nah!  Get your card!
But not till
registration’s barred!

(Oh dear.)

Rock the vote, don’t block the vote!  Or let it be blocked.  This is what most worries me about 2012–it’s one thing if candidates win on their idea; another if they win by blocking votes.   My 55 for the rocking G-Man.    (Citizens-U a reference to the Citizens United case allowing certain types of unlimited campaign donations.)

PS – Completely disheartened that the Senate GOP has blocked the Veterans’ Jobs Bill, that would have supported efforts to hire veterans as policemen, fire fighters, and in federal parks.  The bill would have increased hiring opportunities for vets, and also increased protection for federal parks and included provisions for its payment.  It was supported by both the American Legion and the Sierra Club.  The  ostensible reason – that GOP Senators did not like the bill’s funding plan which related to collection of  back taxes owed from certain healthcare providers.    (We are talking about taxes already owed, not new taxes.)

I love the hooing! And I share the dismay. A light touch for a serious subject. I heard about the disgraceful procedural fillibuster that blocked that bill–which had enough votes to pass by a simple majority–and the only solution I see is we the people getting up and getting involved–that’s the last thing they want–people knowing what they really do(or more appropriately) don’t do, up there. Loved the rhyme and word -magic in your 55 K.

Thanks – you know Jon Stewart on the Daily Show has very telling clips of Coburn – Just awful This makes me so angry. My sense is that the opposition is probably more aimed at the federal parks than the Vets – and then, of course, they just want to block Obama at every step – then complain about lack of jobs. It is outrageous. k.

Coburn and Inhofe are our senators–you want to talk about despair of the political process!—my husband spends hours sending them–especially Coburn–vitriolic emails, about their treatment of vets, a sensitive issue for him, being one. Coburn has done many things to make it very hard for vets, and other human beings, to get health care and jobs. Fortunately he says he’s retiring in 2016, having done all the harm one man can do in a lifetime, one hopes.

Huge donations don’t come free… We so need to reform the process…

This post is worthy of the NY Times.
    What a great poetic observation.

i second what G man says, worthy of the NY TImes. I have learned to check in with your blog if I want to know what’s happening in the world… i much prefer info. when it has a clever cadence to it like this jaunty go!!

    • ManicDdaily Says:

Ha! Well, thanks. You know, I used to write more about politics (in which I am very interested) but I don’t want to alienate or offend people or get my employer into some kind of hot water, so it’s a tricky line that I hope I don’t overstep. k.

This is sad news indeed K ~ You handled this issue with a light touch ~

    Love, love, love this!

    And, God bless Mother Jones!

I actually enjoyed your ditty and got to do that for a moment before re-igniting the slow burn over the obstructionism that keep good work from being done and good people from getting what they need. Okay, Obama doesn’t get what he proposes but do they really think we’re going to blame him?

  8. brian miller Says:

this was def a fun touch on a hard topic….and its just the next step in the slow slide of our country….def great commentary and maybe send it to letters to the editor…i think they might just pic it up…

    • ManicDdaily Says:

Thanks, Brian – I had some more mordant versions on certain candidates! (But I’m trying not to be so confrontational these days as not sure it does so much good.) I may try sending it around though.
