Nice shots, even with the blur. Night photos are difficult in any circumstances. Thanks for sharing these and for the memories they bring.

Well, they are all done on iPhone! I should probably make smaller, but uploaded from the phone as well, and I think the bigger size shows the helicopter a bit better. Thanks, Yousei.

I think they turned out very well for iPhone shots. I find I get some really good ones, and some that look like phone shots. I’m just glad you took them and shared them.

Striking, karin. The blurry background just makes the light beams look more substantial and real, imo. I like the people scene, also–the facial expressions are eloquent.

Yes. I don’t really like taking people’s photographs. I mean, I DO like to have the photographs! But I don’t want to take advantage of someone or make them feel awkward, and I am so tentative that I delay, but after missing many very striking shots, I just tried. k.

Actually, I really think they came out well! The light beams are wonderful

this was before right? they dont still have the spots…i remember seeing the spots before…like ghost images of what was…

No, this was from last night. The “spot” is a helicopter flying through. There are a lot of whirling glittery spots, but those are actually birds swooping in to catch insects attracted by the light. Those are not always that easy to see, and impossible (for me) to photograph – but that one bright spot was actually a fairly large helicopter. k.

Beautiful shots.

They are striking. I thought the large “spot” was the moon (headsmack). They are…right…somehow. Mr. L-S believes they should be lit all the time…
Your photos are gorgeous. Thank you for sharing them.

Thanks! You know, they look clearer on the phone!
The used to keep the lights up for about a month (it seemed.) This year September 10 and 11. (I wasn’t here the 9th, so I don’t know about that.)
They are projected from a garage roof a few blocks below the site. I think they are lovely, but I think it’s kind of nice to have them as a special thing at this point.
From a distance – when you are further uptown–they tend to look a lot whiter, less blue, and skinnier of course. I should add some pictures I took perhaps of them converging in sky, but didn’t want to overload. k.

PS – I realize you must see them from where you live. Sorry, I forgot where you were. They must be very striking from there. k.

Great shots, indeed. The blur in no way detracts from their impact.

Thanks, Dave. The real post is the poem, an old one, for 9/11 but did these on the night.
