I think so! (Wouldn’t want to try!) I should probably call these “toadstools” and then wonder how the toads manage chair repair. k.

Ha, that’s what I have wondered about them too. They always seem to have been bitten off by something.

Yes, sometimes you can see little toothmarks, so don’t think it can just be bugs. k.

I find fungi endlessly fascinating, but I must confess I have often ended a photographic or painting session with them asking exactly that question: what happens to the little critters who keep yaking bites out of them? Who are they? Great post.

ya know..i’m glad that You didn’t take all these bites…ha…i think it were martians maybe…and they don’t get harmed when eating poisonous mushrooms, ya know…smiles

I’m not sure that they affect all animals the same way that they affect humans. I’m reminded of a wonderful afternoon spent foraging in the Hudson Valley with some folks who knew what they were doing, and some very tasty culinary experiences that followed.
