“Autonomic Onomatopoeia”

Autonomic Onomatopoeia

Certain words onomatopoeically
pluck meaning from innate sound–
evolved sound, sound that we have
very long inhaled–their consonants frets
on the neck of our consciousness, their vowels keys
to our xylobones; their syllabication
autonomically strutting
across the bass of our brains.
They sneak
their tongues
into our ears – kiss;
strum tenderly the harp
of tuned
 tendons; zither
our various plexi; nipple songs
of
hip (pocampus) as if
on a dulcimer
of reflexive-fuck
percussively; susurrate love
like the near silence

of twilit breeze; and when you are far,
and I am farther still,
they
 make up poems
that both of us
know
by heart.

Draft poem for 24th day of  National Poetry Month.  I like it!  I hope you do too.  (Sorry to those who are offended by profanity for the profanity!)  Also updated since first posting – could not resist the hippocampus.

This is not linked to any other site, so, instead, I’ll plug some of my books!  (Second Sorry!)  Comic novel, NOSE DIVE,  book of poetry, GOING ON SOMEWHERE, or children’s counting book (with elephants)  1 MISSISSIPPI.   Check them out!

Thanks, Anna. I am so admiring of your energy this month–all those multi media pieces– I am badly recycling old drawings! And you are putting together these multidimensional pieces. K.

I like it too. Great choice of words and phrasing, trying to hear it all as I read, nice rhymes read well in the end too. 🙂

I do like this, it has a sideways look at the topic. . And I think “onomatopoeia” is a wonderful word just in itself, too.

I LOVE it! and no, I am not offended by any ‘bad’ words….LOL!

I always forget what Onomatopoeia means….but this poem will make me remember not only the meaning of the word,

    but the fucking process! LOL!

Lady Nyo….who really likes this poem!

  5. brian miller's avatar brian miller Says:

ha i am not easily offended…but i do love all the sounds in your works….i have to think about what that might sound percussively though…hehe

This is fun, and very rich in little word tastes that make it a poem worth mouthing out loud as one reads along–and thank you for not resisting hippocampus–(tho mine is permanently camped and no longer hip, I think) it adds just a little more spice to the percussive mix. And bonus points for susurrate–love that word–onomatopoeia in the flesh, as it were.

  8. Wonderful! I was listening to La Donna e mobile just as I came to this– hah! I love all of it and especially

    sound that we have
    very long inhaled–their consonants frets
on the neck of our consciousness, their vowels keys
    to our xylobones;

Wonderful word-play– “Even the little flowers are fuck’d up between the earth and the sun…” (or something like it– D.H. Lawrence..” xxxxj
