Not so thankful for injected juices–pre-meal moan.
Oh for the days when turkeys were not shot up after their miserable overcrowded deaths.
Oh for the days when the cook would rub her sweaty brow through hours of desperate braising,
Oh for the days when everyone sat around reassuring the braised cook that the turkey really wasn’t awfully dry and, um, could they have a little more gravy.
Oh for the days pre-pre-injected juices.

Nice thoughts there. Best these days to hunt down an organic bird.

I’m happy to report how turkey was one we raised last year and the juices were it’s own. Thank goodness for turkey bags. Hope you had a great holiday, preferably without injections.

Yes–I’m actually vegetarian–and don’t make an exception for Thanksgiving–but we had to get this turkey at last minute due to a sudden trip. That’s so great that you raised your own!

I’m glad you’re able to stick to your food beliefs even at the holidays. We are definitely meat eaters here, but we, at least my husband and I, feel humbled and honored by the animals we eat. We raise many of them, and doing this makes me think about the ones we don’t. Sorry for going on about it. I’m enjoying our conversations.

I think if you are raising your own meat, it’s a whole different ball game. I’ve been vegetarian so long, it would still be hard for me, but it’s a very different situation if you are the person actively raising and hunting and the animal has not been in a feedlot or slaughterhouse.
